  • Policy 5405 - Dori is still awaiting a reply form Rinard and Tracy. 
  • Policy 5420 - See answers from Lisa Swen
    • Ok with deletion of paragraph based on opinion from Thrun. Will have Kelly place the amended policy in Items of Information for October 14th meeting and on Agenda for the meeting October 27th meeting.
• Renaming Policy
  • Committee approved asking Thrun to rewrite policy, add second policy to cover nonpermanent memorial and create application. Kath will follow up
• Media Center Material
  • Need another month to review materials provided by Kathy K and approved by viewed by Academic and Tech committee
• Other items
  • Terah following up with Mr. Neil from the Social Justice Club on Land Acknowledgement plaques. Need Education resource materials for Staff. Klaudia has spoken with Jon Ostrander from Nokomes Center. Klaudia will follow back up.

• Policy 5405: Tracy, Rinard and Amy Webster drafted items to complete this policy. Dori will review and edit and put in Items of Information for November 11th, 2025 meeting 
• New Thrun Updates 
  • Policy 3118 has new definition of Criminal Sexual Contact. Will be in Items of Information on November 11th, 2025.  
  • Policy 4113 has a number added on page two. Will go in Items of Information on November 11th, 2025.  
  • Form 4113-F will be addressed by administration and published accordingly
• Media Center Materials: A Draft Policy was brought forward by Academic and Tech after it was created by Kathy K, Klaudian and Glenn. Policy Committee made edits. It will be sent to Thrun to make it an official policy.  
• Land Grant Acknowledgement: Following Terah’s response to Mr. Neal, Staff Support of the High School Social Justice Club, and Klaudia’s conversation with Mr. Neal, the Club is in the process of scheduling a meeting with The Nokimos Learning Center after the MSAN conference. Policy Committee will wait until after that meeting to move forward on any policy creation. 
• Renaming Policy: Thrun sent in a suggested Policy. Dori will take it to our principals and see what adjustments should be made.  
• 31aa: This is grant funding to support school safety and student mental health. New this year districts are required to opt-in but must agree that in the event of a “mass casualty event” the district will allow a comprehensive investigation, waive any protected privileges to disclosure, and fully comply with the investigation process. This requirement came from the aftermath of the investigation into the Oxford shooting. East Lansing Public Schools would lose about $500,000 if we do not opt in. Dori will send the board a resolution and it will be on the November 11th, 2025, Agenda.
