Be SMART – Firearms are the leading cause of death among children in the United States. The Board of Education passed a Safe Gun Storage Resolution at their March 13, 2023, meeting which includes annual notice to families about the importance of secure gun storage to protect minors from accessing unsecured guns. The Be SMART website includes numerous handouts and other resources on best practices for gun storage, types of storage and guidance for talking to your children about guns.
ELPS is proud to offer free gun safety locks for distribution to students, families, and staff, made possible through the Michigan State Police (MSP) Grants and Community Services Division. Please email Director of Safety, Jon Martin at jonathan.martin@elps.us if you’d like to pick up a free gun safety lock.
Information on the safe storage laws, a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) document, and additional handouts can be accessed here: https://besmartforkids.org/secure-gun-storage/resources/
Homecoming Week is underway at East Lansing High School! This year’s theme, “Around the World,” brings a full week of spirit activities and celebrations for ELHS students from September 14–19.
Throughout the week, students can participate in themed dress-up days, trivia, schoolwide activities and other opportunities to show their Trojan spirit. Homecoming festivities continue Friday, September 18, with the pep assembly, Homecoming Parade and varsity football game against Grand Ledge at 7 p.m.
The week concludes with the “Around the World” Homecoming Dance on Saturday, September 19, from 7–10 p.m. in the ELHS Student Union.
Students and families can find additional information about Spirit Week, Homecoming activities, the parade, football game, dance and student guidelines below.
Happy Homecoming Week, Trojans!
